"I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple."

- Isaiah 6:1

God Who? (Part 4)

A name holds great importance as it reveals much about a person. In many eastern cultures still today, as in Bible times, a name was given to reveal the character of its bearer. Even today in our own society, a person's name automatically brings to our mind the character traits that person has acquired through their life and lifestyle. It is no wonder God commands that we must not take His name in vain. His name reveals His character. His name reveals who He is and His desire for His beloved creation.

In all actuality, God is referred to by many names. The modern translations of the Bible omits these names in the translation process, but they can be found in the original manuscripts and early religious writings. All the same, the omission of these names does not minimize the revelation of His character as revealed in the messages of these same passages of Scripture.

In Isaiah 6:1, God is portrayed as One who is high and lifted up. One who received much glory and praise. He is portrayed as One who is recognized for His great works and His power. Isaiah reveals God as a Mighty Ruler. Isaiah says he saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. The throne is His in heaven and His robe is His glory that fills our lives. Isaiah reveals God by the name of Adoni. Adoni characterizes God as the Almighty Ruler.

When we know God as Adoni, we recognize Him as ruler over our lives. With Him as head of our lives, we know that trials will come and trials will go, but nothing can go wrong because we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to those who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

To know God as Adoni, is to know that this life is not about attaining our own glory. It is not a race to see who can come out on top. It is not an audition to see who will receive the most recognition. To know God as Adoni, is to know that our purpose is to bring Him glory. Everything we do and all our accomplishments should point others to Him. We remember that without Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). All our gifts and abilities come from Him. It is Adoni who gives us the strength and the wisdom to do all that we do.

HIS NAME IS ADONI. He is God Almighty Ruler. He is the ruler of all creation and He desires to be ruler of our lives. As King of our hearts, He will never fail us, never lead us astray, but will always lead us in the direction that will benefit our lives in the perspective of eternity.
